Just a few of my favourite things.

In my flock right now I have quite a few up and coming pullets. Some lavender and splash Ameraucanas and some Gold Laced Polish, some Show Girl Silkies and some Barnyard Mix. I am excited to have beautiful blue eggs again. Most of my Ameraucanas have gotten quite old (like 7 years old😳) and most of them no longer lay a gorgeous blue egg. Hopefully the new girls will start laying soon.🤞

And these snapdragons are just growing like nuts in my Potager style garden. I grew all different colours and sizes. To think I sowed their seeds at the end of January seems like an eternity ago. I totally recommend growing snaps if you really dislike winter like me. They are one of the first things you can seed and it gives you a chance to get your hands back in the dirt! Which helps me so much with the winter blues. I promise not to mention the "W" word (winter) again during the summer months!😂

I am so happy I added dahlias to the garden this year. This dahlia is called Eveline and it did not disappoint. I have so many just on the cusp of blooming. It is going to be magical!

Our Cayuga ducks. They have grown into such beauti

Our Cayuga ducks. They have grown into such beauties. I love seeing their black feathers shimmer blue/green in the sunlight.

We have had so much rain hear recently. The ducks' run is an absolute disaster. A mud/poop soup mess🤢 And so they are out free ranging today. And they are absolutely enjoying it. Because of all the rain our lawn is dotted with many puddle ponds and it is pretty much a duck's paradise.

Because we only live on just over an acre the ducks reside quite close to our house. Our family often spends time on our back deck swimming in the pool, relaxing and dining. To get to the point when ever we break out in laughter if sets the ducks off into a quacking frenzy. It sounds as if they are laughing along with us. Which sets us all off laughing even harder!

Needless to say we enjoy our messy ducks very much🙂

My garden is my happy place.

I have struggled hard with my vegetable garden in the past. Between weeds and a few unseasonably dry years and pests. I was about ready to pack it in.

This year I changed my whole strategy about gardening. I put in raised beds (as far from our free range chickens as possible.) And I decided to just have fun. I absolutely love flowers so I put them everywhere in between my vegetables.

I fell in love with gardening all over again this year and it feels good.

If not they should be! Growing cauliflower is not for the weak.

This is my first successful cauliflower. And I have tried to grow cauliflower quite a few times. Honestly for the past four years.😂 And every year it got eaten by bugs or worms or by my own chickens. Finally a real beauty! It was worth the wait and it was absolutely delicious!

I think the key was starting the seed super early indoors and planting out as early as possible.

Have you struggled growing cauliflower or broccoli?

Our bachelor buttons have just started blooming. I love the gorgeous colour they add to the garden.

I am so glad I added a ton of flowers to our veggie patch. It gives me so much joy to see the marigolds, zinnias and calendula popping up between broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes and zucchini.

We were away this weekend and the garden has just exploded. It was like Christmas morning exploring the garden when we arrived home.
